DermaPlaning

New AntiAging Resurfacing Treatment for the best looking skin in Pittsburgh

Most people assume a dull, uneven complexion is a product problem. They switch cleansers, try a new serum, or reach for a brightening mask. What they are often dealing with is not a gap in their skincare routine but a surface issue. Accumulated dead skin cells and fine vellus hair sit on the outermost layer of the face, blocking everything underneath from doing its job. Professional dermaplaning removes that layer.

The treatment uses a sterile straight-edge blade, guided by a trained esthetician, to physically lift dead skin and peach fuzz from the skin’s surface in a single session. The process is painless, takes about 30 minutes, and leaves visible results the same day.

What the Treatment Does for Your Skin

The outer surface of the skin renews itself constantly, but dead cells do not always shed at a pace that keeps the complexion looking fresh. Over time, buildup at the surface creates uneven texture, flattens skin tone, and forms a barrier that reduces how well any skincare product you apply can penetrate. A blade moved precisely across the face at the correct angle removes that buildup more thoroughly than any at-home exfoliating product.

Once the surface is cleared, skin reflects light more evenly and feels genuinely smooth to the touch. Fine lines that appeared more defined because of the surface texture become less visible. Makeup applies more cleanly, holds longer throughout the day, and no longer catches on peach fuzz. Serums and moisturizers absorb more deeply for the same reason: no barrier of accumulated cells sits between product and skin.

The specific changes clients notice after a single session include:

Who DermaPlaning Is Right For

This treatment works well for most adults dealing with texture, tone, or surface buildup concerns. Clients with dry or normal skin see strong results, particularly those whose complexion looks flat despite a consistent routine. People who notice their makeup settling unevenly or their skin looking rough in certain lighting often find that a single DermaPlaning session improves how their skin performs for several weeks.

The treatment is also a practical choice for clients who are pregnant or nursing. Because it involves no chemical exposure, there is no risk of absorption. Clients with sensitive skin who cannot tolerate acid-based exfoliation often respond well to dermaplaning, a gentler option that still delivers meaningful results.

We do not perform this treatment on skin with active breakouts, inflamed acne, or cystic acne. Physical exfoliation over reactive skin increases the risk of irritation and is not something we proceed with, regardless of the client’s other goals. Clients managing rosacea should speak with our team before booking so we can review their skin and advise accordingly.

Common Situations That Lead People to Book

Some clients come in because their skin has looked consistently dull for months, and nothing they have tried at home has made a real difference. Others book ahead of a significant event to ensure their skin looks as clear as possible in photographs. Dermaplaning creates a smooth, even surface that holds makeup well and reads clearly in photos, which is why it appears frequently in bridal skincare preparation.

Peach fuzz removal also draws many first-time clients. Fine facial hair catches light in ways that affect how skin looks, both in person and on camera. Many people have tried at-home DermaPlaning tools and found that a professional treatment with a sterile clinical blade yields results that those devices cannot replicate. The angle, pressure, and blade quality make a substantial difference in both safety and outcome.

How We Perform the Treatment

We start by thoroughly cleansing and completely drying your skin. The DermaPlaning procedure is performed on dry skin because moisture reduces the blade’s precision and limits its effectiveness in lifting dead skin cells and vellus hair.

A sterile blade is held at a 45-degree angle and moved in short, controlled upward strokes across the entire face. There is no discomfort. The sensation is closer to a light pass across the skin than anything resembling scraping or abrasion.

The session takes approximately 30 minutes. After the DermaPlaning treatment is complete, we apply a customized blend of peptides and vital nutrients to the newly exposed skin layer to support the skin barrier and help it retain hydration and firmness. Because a single session removes approximately 21 days of accumulated dead skin cells, we recommend scheduling follow-up appointments every three to four weeks to stay aligned with the skin’s natural renewal cycle.

Answering the Hair Question

The most common concern first-time clients raise before their appointment: Will the hair grow back thicker or darker? It will not. Vellus hair, the fine, soft hair on the surface of the face, is structurally different from terminal hair.

DermaPlaning does not reach or alter the follicle itself, so regrowth comes back with the same fine texture and color it had before the treatment. The same principle applies to shaving any body part: the follicle determines the hair, not the act of removing it.

Post-Treatment Care

The changes are visible immediately. Skin looks brighter, feels smoother, and shows a more even tone right after the appointment. Some clients notice a slight pinkness that fades within a few hours. There is no downtime, no peeling, and no restriction on returning to normal activities.

The skin is more sensitive to sun exposure following DermaPlaning because the outer protective layer has been removed. A broad-spectrum mineral sunscreen with SPF 50 or higher is necessary before going outdoors.

We recommend a mineral formula rather than a chemical sunscreen for the first few days, as freshly treated skin absorbs topical ingredients more readily than usual. Keep your skincare routine simple for the first day or two, and let the peptide treatment we applied during your session continue working.

Treatments That Complement Dermaplaning

Microdermabrasion is the most common treatment that clients compare with dermaplaning. Both are physical exfoliation methods, but microdermabrasion uses crystals or a diamond-tipped wand with suction to address clogged pores and surface congestion, while DermaPlaning uses a blade and also removes vellus hair.

For clients with drier skin types or those primarily concerned with texture and tone, DermaPlaning tends to be the stronger fit. Some clients with resilient skin benefit from combining both treatments in a single session for more thorough exfoliation.

Anti-aging skin peels pair particularly well with DermaPlaning because a freshly exfoliated skin surface allows peel formulas to penetrate more evenly. Our estheticians can advise on the right sequence during your appointment. For hair removal goals that extend beyond the face, hair removal and waxing services are available separately. The full range of our facial and skin treatments is available to clients who want to build a long-term skincare schedule.

Our founder, Eva Sztupka-Kerschbaumer, was among the first estheticians in Pennsylvania to be fully trained and certified in dermaplaning, and she has built that expertise into the protocol that every member of our team follows.
